Here is a copy of the parent newsletter I sent out this month:
Greetings 6th Grade Students and Parents.
I am Mr. Haynes and I am one of your student's teachers at Adams City Middle School this year. I am sending out a monthly newsletter this to parents and students and will also send out occasional announcements about events at the school. I hope to be able to stay in contact with as many of you as possible throughout the year and using email is a quick way to let you know what is going on.
I also have a classroom website (updated weekly) and I hope that it will provide you with a way to monitor what is going on in your child's science class this year. My classroom website is http://sites.google.com/site/acms6thgradescience/home and you will find a parent announcement tab, a homework tab, a virtual science notebook (a copy of the notes your student should have with them at all times) and other important information. Please take a look at it and let me know what you think.
I also wanted to let you know that Parent Teacher Conferences are coming up real soon. They will take place September 14th, 15th, and 16th from 3:30 until 7:00pm and we hope to be able to meet with you and discuss your student's progress so far.
We are having drop in conferences this year and we plan on having groups of parents show up on certain days based on student last name. I will email a student schedule for conferences when we finalize it, but as always, if the dates listed don't work for you family, feel free to drop in on another of the nights.
Here is the monthly newsletter for the sixth grade:
Sixth Grade is off to an amazing start and students are quickly settling into the academic routines that will help them be successful this year. In Language Arts, your students are working with Ms. Illingworth and Ms. Current to create personal narratives about family experiences and then will be jumping into author’s purpose, going deeper into the mind of the writer. In Humanities, Mrs. Byrd and Ms. Westcott are guiding the students in an exploration of Geography teaching the students landforms, maps and mapping skills. Students will use these skills as they begin investigating Latin America, focusing on studies of the Ancient Civilizations that once ruled the lands. Students in Ms. Bartko’s room are developing their reading and analysis skills as they journey through Cirque du Freak, a novel by Darren Shan. In Science, Mrs. Ruis and Mr. Haynes are helping inquiring minds investigate the world around them through the Scientific Method, teaching your students to carefully observe, ask testable questions, and make predictions. Later in September we will use these skills to study Water and the Water Cycle as we investigate the properties of this amazing compound. In Math, your students are demonstrating their proficiency and fluency with benchmark fractions, decimals and percents. At the end of September, they will work with Ms. Collins and Mr. Schwartz to explore number relationships and patterns algebraically. Its been a great start and we all look forward to seeing you and your students at parent teacher conferences coming up soon. Thanks, The Sixth Grade Team.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me directly via email or give me a call at 303-853-5451 (please call after 1:30 on school days during my planning period) and I will get back with you shortly.
Thanks,
James Haynes
